About us

Built by people who care about this island and everyone who looks after it.

Who is NouZetwals?

NouZetwals was founded in 2025 by Edyta Ozbek and Jean-Francois Mootoosamy, because of something we both kept noticing and couldn’t ignore.

Around the world, fewer people are choosing to work in health and social care every year. At the same time, we’re all living longer, and more of us are living for years — sometimes decades — with conditions we need help managing. So we need more care than ever, from fewer people. Every country is short of health and social care staff. In a small place like Mauritius, that shortage isn’t a statistic in a report. It shows up in your own family, your own community, your own hospital visit.

And it isn’t only doctors and nurses. It’s the carer who helps your mother get dressed in the morning. The cleaner who keeps a ward clean and safe. The cook who makes sure patients get a proper meal. The porter, the laundry team, the maintenance staff, the receptionist, the admin team, the social worker helping a family through a hard time. Every one of these jobs is part of care — take one away and the whole thing slows down.

Our aim is simple. We want everyone who works in health and social care — whatever the job, whatever the level — to be treated with respect and to have a good standing in the community. To feel appreciated, and supported. Because when people feel valued, they stay in the job. They grow in it. And the care they give gets better too — for the patient, for the family, and for all of us. That’s the whole island benefiting.

We all need care: our grandparents, parents, our spouses, children and friends. The people who provide it aren’t doing a small job. They’re doing one of the most important jobs there is. They are the pillars of our community.

So let’s do this together. Let’s make health and social care something Mauritius is proud of. Let’s encourage more people to consider these professions, and support the people already in them so they can be at their best.

Because caring for others should be a job we look up to.

Our team

NouZetwals is Mauritian at heart – built by people who care about this island and the people who look after it. Our team draws on a broad range of fields – clinical, academic, social, educational, workforce and organisational – with roots here in Mauritius, and connections overseas that we bring home.

They come from different worlds, and that is exactly the point. Some work on the frontline of care every day, right here in our hospitals and communities. Some teach and research it. Some have spent their careers leading health and social care services, training staff, or shaping how care is delivered. Others bring expertise in mental health, education, patient experience, workforce development and community advocacy.

What this gives Mauritius is real, grounded support – and access to best practice from around the world, adapted to our realities, not imported wholesale. Our planned activities are not built on good intentions alone. They are shaped by people who understand what Mauritius needs, and what actually works here.

That is how we intend to make a difference that lasts – for the people who deliver care, for those that receive care, for the organisations that provide it, and for Mauritius as a whole.
