Student of the Year Award

Continuous improvement in healthcare means the best is always yet to come! And a huge part of that is encouraging and celebrating the next generation of students in health, social care, or associated disciplines who will be our stars of the future.

Commitment and talent is worth nurturing right from the start – and this award is for a stand-out individual at the start of their career who is can demonstrate academic excellence, practical skill, professionalism, and commitment during placements or community projects. Do you know the superstar we are thinking of?

What we are looking for in this award:

We want to celebrate someone who is already going above and beyond even at this early stage, inspiring their peers and acting as an emblem of what Mauritius wants from its future healthcare professionals. So what does that look like?

  • Academic excellence – How has this person gone over and above expectations in their studies? This might meen additional courses, reseach projects or advanced skills beyond the curriculum boundaries. Grades, tutor feedback or recognition from academic institutions.
  • Leadership potential – Is this a future leader in waiting? Maybe they have taken the initiative on group projects, helped other students, represented their cohort in meetings or had the personality to bond a group together.
  • Positive real-world contributions – Did practical placements show their superstar talents to patients and supervisors? You will likely have feedback or supervisor recognition to support how well it went.
  • Patient dedication – This person genuinely cares – and you have specific examples of their dedication and compassion for those in their care. Let’s hear about instances of going beyond basic care requirements and showing exceptional empathy. Patients and families may have provided great feedback as a result.
  • Inpirational catalyst – As a future star they inspire others around them, and we’d like to hear about their impact on fellow students and teachers and how it has been recognised.

Who can nominate and how?

Nominations can be submitted by educators, mentors, placement supervisors, or fellow students who have observed the nominee’s performance and impact.
