Team Excellence Award

Outstanding healthcare and social care happens when people come together — sharing ideas, supporting one another, and working as one team to make a difference.

The Team Excellence Award celebrates those teams who go above and beyond, showing what can be achieved through genuine collaboration, compassion, and commitment to improving lives in Mauritius.

This award is open to all teams working in health or social care — whether clinical or non-clinical, in hospitals, community settings, care homes, or support services. We want to recognise the power of teamwork in creating better experiences for patients, service users, and families across Mauritius.

What we are looking for in this award:

We are looking for teams who truly embody the spirit of collaboration — people who have come together across different roles, departments, or even organisations to make a meaningful difference in health and social care.

We want to understand how your teamwork has made things better — for patients, for colleagues, and for your community. Tell us your story: how you’ve supported one another, overcome challenges, and achieved something remarkable together.

In your nomination, consider highlighting how your team has:

  • Worked collaboratively across roles or departments — How have different staff types (nurses, doctors, social workers, other heath professionals and support staff) collaborated together to make improvements or develop a service? We would love to see your examples of this – and how joint decision-making or integration of care has been implemented.
  • Delivered measurable improvements — What specific improvements happened because this team came together and made them happen? Consider factors such as patient satisfaction, reduced waiting times, better outcomes or increased efficiency.
  • Shown creativity and innovation — How has your team found new or more effective ways to deliver care, solve challenges, or support each other? Tell us how you’ve shared best practices, introduced new ideas, or adapted existing approaches to improve your service and make a real difference to the people you care for.
  • Maintained strong communication and leadership — Communication is key, so tell us how it works so well for you and how responsibilities and leadership roles are defined. This might involve things such as effective handovers, shared decisions, collaborative planning and more.
  • Demonstrated resilience and unity — It’s not always smooth sailing, so how does this team or service adapt and deal with difficult situations? There’s a potential crisis round every corner – not to mention staff shortages, increased demand or significant changes – so how have you managed that?
  • Received positive recognition — Your effort might already have been noticed – have you had great feedback from patients, families and partner organisations? If so be sure to include testimonials and feedback that specifically reference the team’s outstanding input.

Who can nominate and how?

Anyone who has witnessed the power of great teamwork can nominate — whether you’re a colleague, manager, patient, service user, or community partner.

Tell us what makes this team exceptional. What did they do differently? How did they support one another? And most importantly, how have their efforts made a lasting difference to people’s lives? How does their story inspire pride in the healthcare and social care community of Mauritius?
