Debbie Smith

Debbie Smith is a senior nurse leader and advocate for compassionate, evidence-based care. As Director of Nursing and Patient Experience at North East London NHS Foundation Trust (NELFT), she leads Patient Experience, Nurse Education, Patient and Carers Race Equality Framework, and initiatives that ensure patients receive safe, high-quality, and person-centred services.

With a career spanning over three decades in the NHS, Debbie has held leadership roles across acute, community, and mental health settings. Her work has focused on improving patient safety, workforce wellbeing, and embedding a culture of kindness and accountability within healthcare delivery. She is known for her calm leadership, collaborative style, and deep respect for the perspectives of patients and staff alike.

Debbie’s influence extends beyond her Trust. She has contributed to regional improvement programmes in quality assurance and patient engagement, helping shape best practice models adopted across NHS England. Her commitment to workforce development includes mentoring future nursing leaders and championing professional recognition for clinical staff at every level.
