Professor Joy Notter PhD MSc RN RHV FEACE FAACE RFRSM is an internationally respected leader in community health, nursing research, and global capacity building. As Professor of Community Health Care Studies at Birmingham City University, she has dedicated more than four decades to advancing nursing education, evidence-based practice, and international health development. Her career has spanned academia, policy influence, and frontline community health, shaping nursing standards and healthcare delivery across continents.

Professor Notter’s impact extends far beyond the UK. She has led research and consultancy projects across Europe, Africa, and Asia—including initiatives funded by the Burdett Trust, NHS England, and the Academy of Medical Sciences—to strengthen health systems in Vietnam, Zambia, Romania, and beyond. Her global contributions have been recognised with numerous honours, including the 2024 Technology 1 Lifetime Achievement Award, the Vietnamese Ministry of Health Award for two decades of collaboration with Bach Mai Hospital, and the Professor Honoris Causa title from Hanoi Medical University. She is a Fellow of both the European and American Associations for Cancer Education, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine, and an esteemed editorial board member for leading journals including the British Journal of Nursing and the Journal for Cancer Education.

As a researcher, educator, and mentor, Professor Notter has supervised over 20 doctoral students and continues to influence future generations of healthcare professionals. Her keynote lectures at international conferences and leadership in professional associations have cemented her reputation as a driving force in advancing global nursing standards and patient care.
