Patient Choice Award

Compassion, empathy and professionalism can have a profound and personal impact on the patients served within a health or social care setting. With individuals potentially feeling vulnerable or scared, the way in which they are dealt with goes hand in hand with the clinical interventions they may receive to holistically serve that person’s needs.

This award is to honour a health or social care professional whose commitment to their patients has earned the heartfelt appreciation of patients, clients, or service users through outstanding empathy, responsiveness, and commitment.

What we are looking for in this award:

This individual is someone who goes above and beyond for their patients – their care is a part of their personality and it’s the reason why they are universally adored by patients and families.

And that’s why for this award it’s a little different…… it’s not nominations from colleagues we are seeking – it’s from the people who were touched during the course of their care, or by the familes who saw how their loved one was treated with dignity, respect and absolute compassion. In particular we are looking to understand:

  • Your care experience -How did this person make your care experience special and meaningful? We want to hear it all – the personal interactions, care received, support provided all the way through your healthcare journey.
  • Feeling valued – How did they make you feel respected, listened to, and important? In particular we’d like to understand moments when they demonstrated respect for your dignity, preferences, or individual circumstances.
  • The extra mile – What did they do that was beyond your expectations? We’re thinking things like personal touches, time spent, follow-up or support provided – so tell us all you can.
  • Your voice – Advocacy for patients is key, so did they make sure your needs, preferences, and concerns were heard and acted upon?
  • Your recommendation – Would you want your family or friends to receive the same level of care from this person?  Explain what specifically you would want others to experience and why this person stands out from other healthcare professionals.

Who can nominate and how?

Nominations can be made directly by patients, clients, or service users, as well as by families or carers who have experienced the nominee’s exceptional care and support.
