Dr Chris Carter is an academic nurse leader and researcher whose work bridges critical care, education, and international partnership development. As Associate Professor at Birmingham City University’s Centre for International Health Partnerships, he collaborates globally to advance health workforce capacity, particularly across Africa and South-East Asia.

With a clinical background in critical care and emergency nursing, Dr Carter brings practical insight to international education and systems-strengthening projects. He has co-led multiple initiatives funded by NHS England, Johnson & Johnson, and the Global Challenges Research Fund, supporting the development of critical care education, workforce planning, and leadership programmes in Zambia and Vietnam.

Dr Carter is a prolific researcher and co-author of numerous peer-reviewed papers in journals such as the British Journal of Nursing and the International Nursing Review. His studies explore the intersections of clinical excellence, virtual mentorship, and sustainable training models for nurses in resource-limited settings. A respected mentor and collaborator, he also contributes to curriculum innovation, embedding international perspectives into nursing education.
