Rani Balloo

Mrs Rani Balloo is a passionate and visionary healthcare leader with over three decades of experience spanning nursing, diabetes education, occupational health and safety, and community health promotion.
As the Founder and Director of Diabetes Safeguard, Rani has been a driving force in transforming diabetes care and awareness in Mauritius through innovative community programs, patient-centred education models, and national advocacy initiatives. Her lifelong mission is to empower individuals, families, and communities to take charge of their health through prevention, education, and sustainable, community-based care.
Rani has a BSc in Nursing, a NEBOSH Diploma in Safety and Health, and training in Prenatal and Postnatal Fitness. She also serves as a Safety and Health Consultant and has past experience as a Diabetes Educator and Nursing Officer in the Ministry of Health and Wellness, where she contributed to public health, patient education, and chronic disease management across multiple departments.
Rani is an active participant, speaker, and facilitator at national and international conferences on diabetes, safety and health, leadership, and gender empowerment, collaborating with organisations including the International Diabetes Federation, Mauritius Research Council, and Gender Links Summits. Her work has been recognised with numerous awards, including Sustainable Health Care Leader (World Sustainability, 2022), Pioneering Woman Leader (World Women Leadership Congress, 2020), Woman Super Achiever in Health & Wellness (Global Awards for Excellence, 2019), the Promising Indian Award – Health & Wellness (2017, 2018), the Golden Globe Tigers Awards – Woman Leadership in Healthcare (Malaysia, 2017), Outstanding Volunteer Award, Mauritius Council of Youth Leaders (2016), and she has been named among the 100 Most Influential Women in Mauritius (2016, 2017), plus numerous international accolades recognising her leadership, innovation, and community impact.
Rani is also deeply committed to community service, having served as an elected Office Bearer of the Nursing Council of Mauritius, a member of the Mauritius Council of Social Services (MACOSS), and Chairperson of the Youth and Health Committee at MACOSS. She advocates for gender equality, youth empowerment, and community health initiatives. Her vision is to create a healthier, more empowered Mauritius where every individual has the knowledge, confidence, and support to live well with—or free from—diabetes.
